...was supposed to do OT (meaning rest day), but got a call that they "don't need me". So, I ran... only for 45 minutes though, but was better than I did yesterday, I didn't feel like crawling back home after the first few minutes nor the last minutes. :)
Here's the route....

Worst Run Ever!!
Well, so far - at least! I am not gonna even try map it out (in google map). It such a beautiful day, although I still am feeling under the weather, I forced myself to run. I thought I could do at least an hour (again). Lesson learned: if you're still recuperating and your body is telling you otherwise, listen to your body.
I ran a measly ten minutes (maybe not even) and walked my way back home. Even the walk back home felt like torture! I wanted to crawl, hail a cab... Even with a water bottle on hand (I thought I would just need to hydrate more), I couldn't. Yet, even with such a poor performance, I am sweating like I just ran the full half marathon!
I am gonna end this post, sad and hit the shower... hopefully I would feel much better in the next couple. I have to feel better. I have to do better.

Back To The Outside World
After trying to get rid of the bug that I caught... I woke up this morning feeling a bit well. The funny feeling in my throat is still there, but not so much. So, I decided to run. My goal for today was to at least do an hour. I know we are supposed to do it by miles, but since I still do not own a pedometer (or something that could measure my mileage) - I think that would do. While running a thought came to me... "map out through google map my run and post it!"
So, after almost 45 minutes of trying to fugure it out and trying to recall my route (yes, I have a very bad sense of direction and memory when it comes to streets and roads!). Here it is:

Where it says beginning of the end (which was at a playground) - I went around the track in the playground for about half an hour running/walking. So, I think I did just about 3 miles today. I say, not bad after being sick! :)

I Can Run!
After the first day of the group training, I felt good. Although I was not able to run for the next two days due to work - which I considered as my rest days.
We left for Connecticut on Friday night to spend the weekend with family (in celebration of my cousin's husband's birthday). We got there late, and did not sleep until 2:30am. Still, I was determined to run during that weekend.
I woke up at 7am, Saturday morning, got my gear ready and my breakfast - bagel with peanut butter. It was a tough decision, my mom's place is located just by a very steep hill. So mu brother had suggested a route with a flat trail. So off we went, running five minutes and resting for one. It was a such a good run. I was able to run five minutes at a time without the need to stop after the first set. Coming back to my mom's place, I challenged myself to run the steep hill - and I conquered it! It was terrible, and as soon as I reached the top, I wanted to collapse! The great part about is - we ran back down and it was heaven! (hahaha)
Sunday morning - greeted us with non-stop rain. I was going to brave it and run. But thought otherwise. The rain was just relentless. We drove back down to NY late in the afternoon with the steady downpour.
Monday - woke up with sniffles and funny throat feeling, and yes, it was still raining. The rain was not as bad as it was the other day. So, I thought it would be ok for me to run. So, I got ready and ran. It was terrible! I could not run for a good 10 minutes - but I tried. I guess this was what they meant "you'll have good runs and bad ones."
Today, I woke up feeling a bit worse than yesterday. But still motivated to run. Still with the gloomy weather yet, no rain. I planned to run my usual route, only to be welcomed by construction for the entire block by the park. So, plan b: run around the park. The park had a track, I just do not know how many miles the track is (I think it's about half a mile per lap). I was able to run the first six-minutes and rest for one minute. The second six-minute I could not finish, despite me pushing myself really hard. I did about three minute. (sad face) But I did not give up. I walked around the track and ran as much as my legs could carry me. It felt nice to run. It felt nice that I was pushing myself despite me feeling under the weather.
I just hope that this sniffles would go away and that I could run longer. I am determined.

Taking A New Challenge
I start this blog to chronicle the new challenge that I have taken upon.
I joined and will be running a 13.1 mile marathon on December 5, 2010.
Yes, I will be running. For those who know me well, knows that me and the gym does not go on the same sentence. At first, it was more for a personal benefit - cardio, tone my body, get more active. Then I went to the meeting to register, and I was just inspired. By the way, I am running with Team Challenge to help raise funds for Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. The "speaker" told us about the runners who participate have Crohn's or ulcerative disease and they run half marathon after half marathon. I looked at myself - here I am healthy as I could be, yet I have done nothing. Sure, I am a nurse and I help people each day... but for some reason, having that as a job does not really count. I get paid to help them. It is my job.
So, thankful that I got talked into attending the meeting (I also got a friend to join), I signed up right then and there.
Here I am now, few hours after my first two mile run (actually it was just 1.8 mile according to our team coach). It was a challenge. But I finished it without throwing up, fainting or sitting down to take a breather! I also finished it under 30 minutes - which at first I thought would be impossible. But yes, I am proud of myself to have finished it and am looking forward to build up my endurance and run more miles. Each mile I run, I dedicate to the cause.
Have I mentioned that this was a fundraiser? Yep, it is. Your donation to the cause will be greatly appreciated, and remember, this is a tax deductable donation! If you wish to donate simply visit: www.active.com/donate/lv10nyc/LVJOng. Eighty cents of each dollar you donate goes directly to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America to find cure and improve the quality of life of children and adults suffering this disease. Approximately 1.4 million American children and adults are diagnosed with crohn's and ulcerative colitis, and more are suffering in silence.
I just want to thank you in advance for your support!
God bless!
